The ride does have chances to let drivers pass in my opinion, and it also does pass thru intersections as though Fenty and hismotor officers were along.( which I thought was awesome and justifialble btw ) Just my take. I love all cyclists and I am not a fan of crazy people regardless of what they are using for transport.chrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16885743854718629653noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3672565957596116714.post-83311529440741046562011-07-06T19:52:08.356-07:002011-07-06T19:52:08.356-07:00I just saw this post, Chris. I know it's old ...I just saw this post, Chris. I know it's old but I thought I'd comment anyway. From someone with so many years of experience on the 10am ride, I don't understand the criticism of people riding in the lane as you described.

There's just nothing to be gained by acting as if we're riding to the right as there simply isn't enough space for cars to pass safely in the lane in any case. And given the size of the group it'd be incredibly dangerous to make an attempt at a single file.

Almost all the roads used are small, low volume, and mostly low speed where no driver should be trying to travel quickly under any circumstances, let alone when there are cyclists present. Even River road just goes out to the Ag Reserve and it's the most dangerous when when don't retain our presence in the lane. The biggest problem after all is cars passing too closely and too fast so by making it clear that they can't fit along side us in the lane, they don't try.

But aside form all that, why does a driver (and that's all the occupants most of the vehicles have) have any more of a claim to the road than even a single cyclist...and we're in a whole group. It's really quite frightening that even cyclists start to think someone in a motor vehicle has some overriding claim to the roadway, even when they're imposing such clear danger on us along with the other negative effects. I think criticizing cyclists for basically doing the same thing as drivers, except with a relatively insignificant impact is totally unsupportable. And it reinforces driver's dangerous mentality that they shouldn't wait for anything.Jameshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14618983665234744200noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3672565957596116714.post-82285959240820150402011-05-07T16:01:16.606-07:002011-05-07T16:01:16.606-07:00+1 on everything you said here. Group rides are G...+1 on everything you said here. Group rides are GROUP RIDES. If you aren't there to ride the route as tradition and unwritten rules intend, create your own ride and invite your friends.

I've also become pretty anti-cyclist over the past few years seeing some of the shit bike racers pull. Not ACTUALLY anti-cyclist, but more like we need to assume our place and not fuck up traffic for the people controlling 3000lb machines who are staring death beams into the back of our heads.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13013917411496312442noreply@blogger.com
